ABLE2 Grow – Understanding Taxes and CRA Scams: Protect Yourself Against Fraud

Join ABLE2 and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for an educational session on understanding taxes, benefits, and credits available to you and protecting yourself against CRA scams.

Date/Time: December 14, 2023, 6:30 PM-8 PM

Location: Zoom

The session will include information on the following topics:

  • General tax awareness
  • Canada Child Benefits (CCB) and Child Disability Benefit (CDB)
  • Goods and services tax / harmonized sales tax (GST / HST credit)
  • Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)
  • Ontario non-refundable tax credits and refundable tax credits and benefits
  • Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit

Representatives from the CRA will also discuss how you can protect yourselves from ongoing CRA scams. Examples of different types of fraud will be discussed as well as tips to help participants avoid becoming victims of fraud in the future.

After the presentation, we will open the floor for discussion where participants can share their experiences and stories.

The FASD Symposium is Eastern Canada’s largest annual gathering of everyone connected to the FASD community. This one-day interactive, educational event, with content available in English and French, attracts 400+ people each year. Our theme for 2023 was ‘It is Time to Change". A day that will bring together advocates and researchers and creative ideas about effecting change in systems, identifying existing gaps and suggesting actions we need to take to support people (and their caregivers) in the FASD community.
